Greek basketball superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo reached a new milestone in his illustrious career on Monday night, surpassing NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the Milwaukee Bucks' all-time leading rebounder.
Antetokounmpo, 29, achieved the feat in the Bucks' 128-119 victory over the Houston Rockets, grabbing 17 rebounds to bring his career total to 17,165, surpassing Abdul-Jabbar's mark of 17,161.
The two-time NBA MVP is now one of only four players in NBA history to lead their team in points, assists, and rebounds. The others are Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan, Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James, and Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Garnett.
"It's a great honor," Antetokounmpo said after the game. "I don't think anyone would have thought this skinny kid from Greece would break Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's record."
Antetokounmpo's achievement was overshadowed by the performance of Houston Rockets guard Damian Lillard, who had 39 points, 11 assists, and five rebounds in the game.
Antetokounmpo tied Abdul-Jabbar's record with his 14th rebound of the game with 7:46 to go. He ended the night with 26 points and three assists, but his arm was cut and bled profusely during the game.
